During the Sunday service, our organist, Kiel Krommer, our choir, and instrumentalists offer special sacred music. The glorious sounds of the Johnson and Son, Opus 781, 1892 three manual pipe organ inspire our worship. Choir rehearsals are held on Sunday mornings after worship from 11:15-12:15, with special rehearsals on Thursday evenings before major holidays, such as Christmas and Easter. New members are always welcome, no auditions are necessary.
The Music Committee is active in fundraising to support the music program of the church. Several concerts and dinners are held each year for our congregation, the Monson community, and surrounding towns. The events feature local musicians, such as David Neill's Jazz Band, the West Mass Brass, as well as organists from the Springfield and Worcester American Guild of Organist chapters. The Monson Cultural Council has generously underwritten many of these cultural events.
On Sunday, October 16, 2022, at 3:00 p.m., Monica Czausz Berney, nationally known organ recitalist, will present a concert to celebrate the restoration of the wind supply of the Johnson & Son, Opus 781, 1892 three manual organ. Monica graduated from the Curtis Institute of Music in May of 2019 with an artist diploma in Organ Performance. Monica is originally from Western Massachusetts and began her organ studies with Peter Beardsley at Christ Church Cathedral in Springfield. Tickets for the concert as well as opportunities for sponsorship will be forthcoming.
The Music Committee accepts donations to the Eva Farr Fund established to maintain and preserve the historic Johnson Organ. To donate, make a check payable to First Church Monson and notate Eva Farr Fund Donation.
